The Sit Down Mummy guide to Noosa tri weekend

Noosa tri. One of the coolest sprint distance triathlons in Australia. Noosa is already bulging with an influx of lycra clad, expensive-penile-shaped-helmet wearing athletes, ready to tackle the race for another year.

Hubby and I have both done this race in the past and it is so much fun.
It has vibe, and well, the hill at Gyndia really makes the race.

Here are my local tips for an epic Noosa tri weekend:

1. Traffic be nuts. Crazy nuts. Do not drive anywhere near Noosa main beach. Ride your bike down instead.

2. Have family with you? A good fun place to spectate is at the bottom or along Gyndia hill. That is where I will be cheering you all on with my kids and beast pram.pram5

3. If you do the race in budgie smugglers (incl. the ride and the run) and/or Dunlop joggers we will cheer extra hard for you. Same goes for anyone doing the ride on a mountain bike. If your mountain bike has spokey dokeys, we may run out and kiss you. Awesome.

4. Looking for a great coffee in Noosa?

My rec for top 4 spots:

  • Bean Drop at the Fruit Shop across from Bunnings.
  • Bullitt coffee near the roundabout. The way cool shiny caravan.
  • Little Cove Coffee (along the run course).
  • Sails coffee cart (right on main beach).

5. Don’t drop your gu rubbish along the course or I will punch you in the snatch. Littering is very uncool in racing. Especially when we are not racing for gold medals or sheep stations. Jam your rubbish in your jocks.

6. Hot tip. Gyndia hill has 14 turns, marked up on the road for you. And then a final little wind up to the top. There will be folks having a BBQ at turn 10 just to punish you with the smell of cooking snags! A local tradition. The rest of the bike ride is flat city (minus the big downhill coming back the other way – wooooo!)

7. Best noodles in Noosa for post race feed is in Noosa Junction. Cheap too. Go where you see the backpackers go.

8. Beers on the verandah of the Noosa Surf Club post-race is recommended. Just this week the Noosa surf club was voted best surf club in Australia. Come check it out.

9. Go for a recovery walk along the famed Tanglewood track in Noosa National Park. But please stick to the left of the path.

10. Best fish and chips for a recovery potato fest is at the Noosaville Fish Market on the way to Tewantin. Cutest little shop that ever was… with killer chips.fish_chips
11. The famous Noosa Farmers Markets are changing times this week. Instead of clashing with the tri on Sunday morning, they will be held this Friday afternoon from 3pm. Best bananas in town. Pop by and grab some and eat your way around the delicious markets. market_haul

See you in town soon!
